Canelo Alvarez, Gennadiy Golovkin agree to meet in blockbuster third fight, per report

As boxing and all sports are paused amid the coronavirus threat, a general agreement has reportedly been reached between two of the biggest names in the game to square off in what should be a blockbuster third bout. Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin have “verbally agreed on financial terms to stage their trilogy fight,” according to The Athletic’s Lance Pugmire, who cites multiple sources.

Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) was previously scheduled to fight Billy Joe Saunders on May 2 as part of a super middleweight unification bout, but that is now expected to be postponed. Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KOs) has won every professional fight he’s had except when he’s faced Alvarez. GGG is 0-1-1 against Canelo, fighting to a draw in 2017 and losing by majority decision in 2018.

CBS Sports will update this breaking news story shortly.
