Combate Global picks for Oct. 8 fight card in Miami

Before tuning into Friday’s fight card, you need to see the picks from SportsLine’s MMA insider Andrew Gombas. With more than 1,200 selections tracked by the third-party monitoring service Bet MMA, Gombas has shown a 10 percent return on investment for his followers. In 2020, $100 bettors who tailed his picks were up $9,200.

For Friday’s Combate Global fight card, Gombas is picking Waters to beat Tovar. Water won all three of his Combat fights, submitting Ramon Butts in his professional debut last March and then beating Sean Hotusing by decision before submitting Sedric Johnson in his last fight in June.

Tovar is ending a four-year layoff after being beaten in his last two fights back in 2017, including a knockout loss to Christofer Ramirez at a Combate Americas event in January of that year. Tovar has been knocked out twice and submitted twice in his career.

“(Waters) is a slick grappler that looks to take the fight to the ground. Two of his three wins have come by submission and two of his three amateur wins came by submission as well,” Gombas told SportsLine. “All six of Tovar’s pro wins have come by KO/TKO. He is always looking for the knockout and is dangerous in a stand-up fight. I don’t think this fight stays standing long, and I see Waters keeping his perfect record intact.”
