Fantasy Football: FFT’s buy low and sell high on NFL offenses, favorite streaming quarterback and DST

Hello, everyone. Dan Schneier (@DanSchneierNFL) here. We’re moving onward into Week 7 of what has been an interesting Fantasy Football season to say the least. Due to a combination of injuries and NFL teams opting to throw the ball more often, the running back position is a desert. Even more so than in past seasons, there are very few workhorses to count on once you get a few names down the rankings. There has also been an emergence of NFL offenses great for Fantasy and those struggling to put up consistency despite entering the year with great expectations. We’ll have more on that below.

Every week I will get together the Fantasy Football Today crew to provide me responses to a panel of questions that could help you win your week and ultimately (hopefully) your league. This week we’ll dive into early-season breakouts due to regress, vice versa, bench stashes and more. Without further ado, let’s dive right in:

1. What NFL offense are you buying low on for Fantasy the rest of way?

Adam: The Falcons showed a willingness to throw the ball downfield in their last two games and it will benefit Matt Ryan, Calvin Ridley and Kyle Pitts. I’m not necessarily buying low on Mike Davis, but I do think the passing game will be productive for Fantasy purposes going forward.

Dave: Philadelphia is the easy answer. Jalen Hurts‘ passing woes don’t look good, but he should get some help in the form of a competent run game and the return of mismatch piece Dallas Goedert. I also expect the offensive line to improve with Lane Johnson back. Their rest-of-season schedule is delightful.

Jamey: The Saints are a great offense to buy into now because the best is yet to come. Alvin Kamara has been solid but underperformed, and I still expect a monster finish from him. Jameis Winston will hopefully take off when Michael Thomas is healthy, and you might be able to get Thomas cheap right now while he’s still out. We also might get something out of Tre’Quan Smith, which would be an added bonus.

Chris: Dolphins would be a very low buy, but I think things will get better for them moving forward as they start to get healthy. Obviously, there are those trade rumors floating around that add a complicating factor, but all in all, I think this offense is going to be one that is much better in the future. I’d be trying to buy Jaylen Waddle and adding Will Fuller

Heath: The Eagles are No. 1 with a bullet. Their next three games are Raiders, Lions, and Chargers. Their final five games are against the Giants (twice), Football Team (twice) and Jets. Jalen Hurts, Miles Sanders, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert are all buys for me. I also expect the Dolphins, Bears and Steelers to be better than they have been.

2. What NFL offense are you selling high on?

Adam: A tough call but I’ll go with Arizona as the Zach Ertz addition could make the target distribution even more unpredictable. Kyler is safe but DeAndre Hopkins is simply not going to get the target share we expected and guys like Chase Edmonds, Ertz and the other three WRs will be inconsistent. As far as Hopkins goes, I still expect him to be a Top 20 WR but I’d trade him for Terry McLaurin right now.

Dave: I am a little scared that the Ravens may have put some stuff on film that could make it easier for defenses to play the Chargers. Mike Williams has been amazing but we all know he’s been putting up numbers that are impossible to keep up. Keenan Allen’s been way worse than expected. Justin Herbert’s a great quarterback but last week proved he can be susceptible to trouble. Do the Chargers have a counter-punch to their pass-heavy offense?

Jamey: It’s probably the Cardinals. Aside from Kyler Murray, who can get you guaranteed production on a weekly basis? DeAndre Hopkins is a stud, but he’s relying too much on touchdowns with all the mouths to feed in Arizona. A.J. Green, Christian Kirk and Rondale Moore could all suffer with the addition of Zach Ertz. And the running backs have been inconsistent for much of the season. I’d be looking to sell high on Hopkins now.

Chris: Cleveland. The injuries are really starting to mount up, and we just don’t know how well Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb, and Kareem Hunt are going to be able to play moving forward. Odell Beckham has this shoulder issue now, and we haven’t even see Jarvis Landry play off his knee injury yet. It just seems like a situation that could continue to get ugly, with the possibility Mayfield eventually has to have surgery — something we know is coming in the offseason at this point.

Heath:  I don’t know if it’s selling high, but I’m pretty worried about the Broncos. The running backs seem fully locked into a 50/50 timeshare and the passing game is about to get very crowded with the return of Jerry Jeudy. Couple that with the health concerns for Teddy Bridgewater and I’m a sell on most of them.

3. Who is your favorite streaming QB for Week 7?

Adam: I like Matt Ryan at Miami, but if he is rostered in too many leagues I would go with the other QB in this game. Tua Tagovailoa has no run game to speak of and is facing a bad defense. And since I like Ryan so much, that should mean the Dolphins need to throw a decent amount to keep up with the Falcons.

Dave: Tua Tagovailoa is the popular answer. He looked good last week piloting the Dolphins offense and gets a great matchup this week against the Falcons. Atlanta’s defense had a week to fix some issues but I have a hard time believing they’ll suddenly have a pass rush and a group of pass defenders to make things hard on Tagovailoa.

Jamey: Matt Ryan, who is our Start of the Week. He’s coming off two solid games and has a great matchup against the Dolphins.

Chris: Matt Ryan. Tagovailoa is right behind him, but I have a bit more faith in Ryan given how he played over the three games prior to the bye — 289 yards, 2.7 TD,  0 INT per game. The Dolphins and Falcons matchup should be a good one for both sides, but I give Ryan the slightest edge.

Heath: If Matt Ryan counts, it’s him. He’s thrown at least two touchdowns in four straight and he’s topped 283 yards in three of those games. If Ryan doesn’t count because he’s rostered in too many leagues, then it’s Tua Tagovailoa. He looked more aggressive in Week 6, he could be getting weapons back, and he faces the Falcons’ terrible pass defense.

4. Who is one player you’d add now who will be a popular waiver claim next week?

Adam: As of Wednesday, Kadarius Toney is rostered in 66% of CBS leagues. That could continue to drop as he is expected to miss this week’s game and perhaps next week as well. But I’m telling you this: Toney is too good to leave off your roster! He could be a league winner in the second half, so beat the rush and get him now.

Dave: Devonta Freeman is still only rostered in less than half of CBS’s leagues. He needs to be closer to 70%. He looks like the Ravens’ best bet at running back right now.

Jamey: Jaret Patterson. If Antonio Gibson (calf) is out for Week 7 and Patterson does well at Green Bay then he’ll be a must-add guy in all leagues.

Chris: Rhamondre Stevenson could be the player to have on waivers at any point if something happens to Damien Harris, and it seems like there is always something almost happening to Harris. Harris has been pretty boring  himself — five top-24 RB finishes in PPR scoring in 16 career starts — but Stevenson led the team’s running backs in routes and catches in Week 6, and if they trust him more in the passing game than Harris and he becomes the primary rusher, he could actually have the upside Harris backers wish he had.

Heath: Well, he’s been dropped more than added this week, but Robby Anderson. The Giants have given up Fantasy production to virtually any receiver who has seen targets and Anderson has seen 29 of them over his past three games. I refuse to believe he’s simply forgotten how to catch at age 28.

5. Who is your favorite streaming D/ST for Week 7?

Adam: The Saints have mostly played well defensively this season and they get the Seahawks in Week 7. Geno Smith has been fine, but I can’t see the Seahawks putting up a lot of points which makes the Saints DST a safe option with big upside.

Dave: New Orleans, because they play against Geno Smith and the Seahawks. Seems simple enough.

Jamey: Of the ones who were likely available it’s the Saints. The matchup against Geno Smith is enticing, especially with New Orleans rested coming off a bye.

Chris: It was the Saints, but they are probably too highly rostered at this point, so I’ll say the Browns if they are available, the 49ers if not.

Heath: The 49ers at home, in primetime, coming off a bye, against the Colts. Carson Wentz has been playing good football, but this is a really bad spot for the Colts. I’m not sure we know how good this 49ers defense is yet, but I expect them to win at the line of scrimmage against the Colts.
