Here We Go: Seven contract situations to monitor, including Barcelona’s Pedri and Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger

The contract situation for some stars in top European leagues is growing more urgent. Top clubs have been working for weeks to find solutions for agreements with their players that will expire in the next few years. Here are updates on seven of the main contractual situations to monitor right now in Europe.

1. Paul Pogba, Manchester United

Manchester United are waiting for a definitive response from the French midfielder. So far, no decision has been reached because Pogba wants to think about it with his family and agent Mino Raiola. A proposal to extend the contract has already arrived from the club in July, but so far there are no answers yet.

2. Pedri, Barcelona

Barcelona now have priority to resolve the manager’s situation (Joan Laporta recently said manager Ronald Koeman’s job was safe for the time being), but Pedri’s contract is one of the next steps for the club. Barca board has been working for weeks to extend the agreement with the Spanish star and the feelings are very optimistic. Barca hope to complete everything in the next few weeks because Pedri is part of the club’s future.

3. Serge Gnabry, Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have opened talks with Gnabry for a contract extension. There is no urgency but the German club always wants to anticipate the times and avoid surprises with key players. Gnabry and Bayern are in advanced negotiations to extend the contract.

4. Antonio Rudiger, Chelsea

It’s not over with Chelsea yet, in fact there are still negotiations ongoing between Rudiger’s camp and the English club. But so far an economic agreement on the German’s salary has not been reached, with the risk of losing him in June 2022 as a free agent. Bayern and Real Madrid are interested but have not yet officially approached Rudiger, because they know he is happy in London and with manager Thomas Tuchel.

5. Franck Kessie, AC Milan

The AC Milan midfielder is having some disappointing performances this season, partly because he is distracted by his contract situation. An economic agreement is far away, which is why there is the risk of AC Milan losing Franck in June 2022 as a free agent. But even then, the club’s offer is on the table and expects a definitive response from the player. Many top European clubs are keeping an eye on this Kessie story. AC Milan still hope to fix every detail and sign him.

6. Paulo Dybala, Juventus

Juventus are very optimistic to conclude everything quickly with Dybala. The Argentine has been dealing with the renewal for more than two years with COVID and financial difficulties having changed this deal several times. But now there is confidence to get the signatures for a new deal until 2025, which would be appreciated by Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri.

7. Lautaro Martinez, Inter Milan

The verbal agreement has already been reached between Inter and Lautaro’s representatives, an agreement until June 2026 to extend the Argentine striker’s contract. Now they need to complete the documents, the final clauses and sign the paperwork. Inter want to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
