Four-star athlete Dillon Tatum, the No. 266 overall prospect in the Class of 2022, made his commitment to Michigan State and coach Mel Tucker on Wednesday evening live on CBS Sports HQ. Tatum chose the Spartans over Michigan, Tennessee, Baylor, Georgia and Iowa.

“It’s a blessing. I’m going to win games, win a Big Ten championship and win a national championship,” Tatum said. “I just felt the love and passion from the coaching staff … I went up to a camp at Michigan State and Mel Tucker personally coached me.”

Tatum, a 5-foot-11, 190-pounder from West Bloomfield (Michigan) High School, is the No. 13 athlete in the country and fifth-ranked player in the state of Michigan. He has played running back, slot receiver, safety and cornerback in high school, but is expected to be a defensive back once he arrives in college.

Allen Trieu, national recruiting analyst for 247Sports, provided this scouting report on Tatum:

Has played all over from running back and slot on offense to safety and corner on defense and returning kicks on special teams. Projects most likely as a nickel corner in college. Has run track and has gotten good results and that shows up in his straight-line speed but also in his conditioning and being able to play all three phases in high school. Shows good ball skills and has gotten interceptions from his safety spot. Has short-area quickness and twitch to be able to play man. Physically speaking, he is not big, but also is not undersized. It is not impossible a school gives him offensive looks but is most likely to play defense and be a special teams guy.

Tatum is the 20th player to commit to Michigan State during the current recruiting cycle. He is the fifth player with four stars attached to his name in the 247Sports Class of 2022 prospect rankings.
