MLB DFS: Top DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy baseball picks, strategy, advice for October 1, 2021

Now that the Atlanta Braves have clinched their fourth consecutive NL East title, they join the list of teams that will likely rest star players in the final three games of the season. Topping that list is first baseman Freddie Freeman, who has scored the third-most daily Fantasy baseball points at his position in 2021. If he’s a healthy scratch tonight, Atlanta will be without its most successful hitter against Mets probable starter Tylor Megill.

Freeman has a hit in half of his career at bats against Megill, who has given up seven home runs in four September starts. Freeman’s backup, Austin Riley, hit a home run against Megill in July, and can be picked up on FanDuel for $3,700 and DraftKings for $5,200. Are there any other inexpensive plug-and-play options like Riley that could prove to be hidden treasures in the MLB DFS player pool? Before making any MLB DFS picks, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.

McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won almost $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.

On Thursday, McClure had Twins third baseman Josh Donaldson as one of his top picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. The result: Donaldson hit a three-run home run against the Tigers to score 20 points on DraftKings and 28.7 on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, with the 2021 MLB season nearing its conclusion, McClure has locked in his top MLB daily Fantasy picks for Friday. Head to SportsLine now to see them

McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for October 1, 2021

One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Friday is Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts, at $3,700 on FanDuel and $5,600 on DraftKings. He had a solid September, with a double, triple and three home runs in fewer plate appearances than in any other month this season.

Boston wraps up its regular season against Washington and faces left-handed pitcher Josh Rogers. Bogaerts has only had one previous at bat against Rogers, but has hit lefties reasonably well this season. Bogaerts has taken runs from 18 percent of his plate appearances against southpaws, compared to 16 percent against righties. Although he had a quiet series against Baltimore, he had a hit and scored two runs on Wednesday night against the Orioles.

Another key in McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy includes stacking Bogaerts with Boston third baseman Rafael Devers ($3,900 on FanDuel, $5,600 on DraftKings). The 24-year-old infielder has four multi-hit games in his last nine. In three games against the Yankees at the end of last week, he had four hits with a double, home run and a stolen base.

Devers took a hit from Rogers in his only prior meeting with him, and has been money against the Nationals throughout his career. In six previous games against Washington, Devers has batting splits of .304/.360/.652 with two doubles, two homers and four RBI. Devers, a lefty batter, has been better against left-handed pitching this season than RHPs, and he’s been steady overall over the past six games. He’s hit .304 with seven hits, a home run and three RBI.

How to set your MLB DFS lineups for October 1, 2021
