MLB DFS: Top DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy baseball picks, strategy, advice for October 2, 2021

We’re down to the second-to-last day of the 2021 MLB regular season and all eyes are on the four-team AL Wild Card race between the Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays and Mariners. However, all 30 teams will be in action on Saturday and a deep MLB DFS player pool means you can focus on the best matchups and not just the games that matter most. The White Sox have won five in a row as they try to hunt down the Astros for the second-best record in the American League and they’ve scored 34 runs during that span.

So does that mean you should be including White Sox stars like Jose Abreu, Tim Anderson, Eloy Jimenez and Yasmani Grandal in your MLB DFS stacks? Or should you be targeting players from Mets vs. Braves for your MLB DFS lineups given that they’re tied for the highest over-under (9.5) of the day at Caesars Sportsbook? Before making any MLB DFS picks, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.

McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won almost $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.

On Friday, McClure had Blue Jays starter Steven Matz as part of his player pool for DraftKings and FanDuel. The result: Matz gave up two earned runs over seven innings and struck out five for a win over the Orioles to score 21.55 points on DraftKings and 40 on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, with the 2021 MLB season nearing its conclusion, McClure has locked in his top MLB daily Fantasy picks for Saturday. Head to SportsLine now to see them

McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for October 2, 2021

One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Saturday is Royals second baseman Whit Merrifield at $3,400 on FanDuel and $4,600 on DraftKings. Merrifield’s power numbers have been down a bit from his career year in 2019. But he rarely misses time and hits at near the top of the Royals order every day, so he piles up a high volume of hits and is also an enormous threat on the basepaths.

Merrifield is third in the American League in hits this season (183) and he’s had three multi-hit games in his last six contests. He’s also stolen an American League-leading 40 bases this season and he’s got a juicy matchup on Saturday against Twins starter Griffin Jax, who has a 6.78 ERA and has given up a staggering 23 home runs in 77 innings this season.

Another key in McClure’s optimal MLB DFS Draft strategy includes rostering White Sox outfielder Luis Robert ($3,800 on FanDuel, $6,100 on DraftKings). It’d be interesting to see just how seriously Robert might be taken as an MVP candidate if he hadn’t missed over 90 games this season because the second-year centerfielder from Cuba has been absolutely dominant when healthy.

Robert is slashing .342/.378/.565 with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs in 66 games. He’s also hit 22 doubles and a triple to give himself 35 extra-base hits. That’d put him on pace for a staggering 86 extra-base hits over the course of a 162-game season. Robert had 11 multi-hit games in September and hit six home runs while driving in 21 during the month.
