The Seahawks had never been shut out with Russell Wilson at quarterback until Sunday night, when Aaron Rodgers and the Packers claimed an ugly 17-0 victory to spoil Wilson’s anticipated return from injured reserve. Most discouraging of all might’ve been Wilson’s own performance — an out-of-sync clunker that saw the Pro Bowler complete just 50 percent of his passes and throw a pair of untimely interceptions. But Wilson told reporters afterward that his finger, surgically repaired during his three-game stint on IR, was not to blame.
“My finger felt fine,” he said. “The problem with tonight was I had two bad plays, you know? It felt like we were moving the ball pretty well … But I felt confident, I didn’t feel anything. I threw one high to Tyler (Lockett) that, maybe I just tried to throw it a little too hard, but other than that, I felt confident in every throw and just confident in the game … We should’ve won that game … I gotta play better, and that was on me, those two plays — that was really the game.”
Wilson, of course, is referring to his two interceptions — one on a red-zone bullet to DK Metcalf and another on a deep end-zone throw to Tyler Lockett. But the reality is he was off the mark for much of the night, finishing 20 of 40 for just 161 yards and finding Metcalf and Lockett for a mere five combined catches for 49 yards. If his throwing hand wasn’t bothering him, then chemistry within the Seahawks offense at least appeared to be a problem following Wilson’s three-game absence.
In any event, Seattle won’t have long to dwell on the lifeless offensive performance in Green Bay. Wilson and the Seahawks (3-6), whose playoff aspirations now lie almost exclusively with a potential wild-card berth, will host the NFC West-leading Cardinals (8-2) in Week 11.
