Titans’ A.J. Brown out for Week 2 vs. Jaguars due to bone bruise in knee

Syndication: The Tennessean

The Tennessee Titans announced some unfortunate news on Friday, as head coach Mike Vrabel informed reporters that star wide receiver A.J. Brown would miss the Titans’ Week 2 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars due to a bone bruise in his knee. Brown was a limited participant during Wednesday’s practice, but was not able to suit up on Thursday. According to multiple reports, Brown again missed practice on Friday.

Brown played in 81% of the offensive snaps in Tennessee’s Week 1 win over the Denver Broncos, and caught five of his eight targets for 39 yards. In 2019, Brown became the only player in the Super Bowl era to record over 1,000 receiving yards while averaging over 20 yards per reception in his rookie season. Even in a talented rookie wide receiver class which featured the likes of DK Metcalf, Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel and Darius Slayton, Brown had the most successful season. He was fifth in the NFL in yards after catch among wide receivers, while also sporting a robust 13.2 yard average depth of target.

The good news for the Titans in the wide receiver department is that Corey Davis (hamstring) was able to return to practice on Thursday in limited fashion after being held out on Wednesday. He had one of the best games of his Titans career in the season opener, as he caught seven of his eight targets for 101 yards. Davis is in a contract year, and he can further prove his worth to this team with another big performance on Sunday with Brown sidelined. Fellow wide receiver Adam Humphries and tight end Jonnu Smith will likely see an uptick in targets as well.
