What to Know
The UAB Blazers are 4-0 against the Rice Owls since November of 2017, and they’ll have a chance to extend that success Saturday. The Blazers and Rice will face off in a Conference USA battle at 3:30 p.m. ET at Protective Stadium. UAB should still be riding high after a big victory, while Rice will be looking to right the ship.
UAB got themselves on the board against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles last week, but Southern Miss never followed suit. UAB made easy work of the Golden Eagles and carried off a 34 to nothing win. The team ran away with 31 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those in the second to pick up the victory. The Blazers can attribute much of their success to RB DeWayne McBride, who rushed for one TD and 137 yards on 17 carries.
Meanwhile, the evening started off rough for the Owls last week, and it ended that way, too. They were completely outmatched by the UTSA Roadrunners on the road and fell 45 to nothing. Rice was in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 31 to nothing.
UAB is the favorite in this one, with an expected 23.5-point margin of victory. They have been consistent moneymakers against the spread when favored (4-1), so they might be worth a quick bet.
The Blazers are now 5-2 while Rice sits at 2-4. A couple defensive numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: UAB is stumbling into the contest with the 214th most passing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 13 on the season. Rice has experienced some struggles of their own as they are 240th worst in the nation in touchdowns allowed, with 27 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
