After just over a week on the Minnesota Vikings‘ active roster, veteran cornerback Patrick Peterson was placed on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday.
If vaccinated, Peterson would be permitted to rejoin the Vikings if he has two negative tests at least 24 hours apart. If he is not vaccinated, he will be isolated for a period of 10 days which would include Minnesota’s Week 13 road game against the Detroit Lions.
Peterson played in 77 snaps — including 70 on defense — during the Vikings’ Week 12 road loss to the 49ers. The game was Peterson’s second game since returning from injured reserve. Peterson had missed three consecutive games after sustaining a hamstring injury during Minnesota’s Week 6 win over the Carolina Panthers. It marked the first time in Peterson’s 11-year career that he was forced to miss a regular-season game due to an injury.
An eight-time Pro Bowler during his time with the Arizona Cardinals, Peterson has logged 21 tackles and two passes defensed during this first eight games with the Vikings. A member of the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 2010s, Peterson inked a one-year, $8 million deal with the Vikings during the offseason.
Minnesota’s defense has struggled through the season’s first 11 games. Following Sunday’s loss to the 49ers, the unit is 24th in the NFL in scoring, 30th in rushing, and 27th in red-zone efficiency. The Vikings’ offense suffered a blow on Sunday when Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook suffered a torn labrum, per CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora.
