What to Know
The California Baptist Lancers have enjoyed the comforts of home their last five games, but now they must head out on the road. They will square off against the #8 Texas Longhorns at 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Frank Erwin Special Events Center. California Baptist will be seeking to avenge the 67-54 loss they suffered the last time these two teams played Nov. 12 of 2019.
The Lancers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 74-70 win over the Northern Colorado Bears on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Texas simply couldn’t be stopped on Saturday, as they easily beat the San Jose State Spartans at home 79-45. Guard Andrew Jones and forward Tre Mitchell were among the main playmakers for the Longhorns as the former had 13 points and the latter had 14 points along with eight boards. Jones had some trouble finding his footing against Northern Colorado last Wednesday, so this was a step in the right direction. Jones’ points were the most he has had all season.
California Baptist have to know they’ll be fighting an uphill battle given the 22 point spread they are up against. Those who got lucky with them against the spread on Sunday might want to hold off on placing bets this time since the team has yet to string together back-to-back wins against the spread.
Their wins bumped California Baptist to 5-0 and the Longhorns to 3-1. We’ll see which team can carry over their success and which team inevitably falls when the Lancers and Texas clash.
