North Texas @ Louisiana Tech

Current Records: North Texas 1-2; Louisiana Tech 1-2

What to Know

The North Texas Mean Green are 1-5 against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs since November of 2015, but they’ll have a chance to close the gap a little bit Saturday. North Texas and Louisiana Tech will face off in a Conference USA battle at 7 p.m. ET at Joe Aillet Stadium. Given that these two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

The Mean Green were expected to have a tough go of it last week, and that’s exactly how things played out. They have to be aching after a bruising 40-6 defeat to the UAB Blazers. North Texas was in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 30 to nothing.

There was early excitement for Louisiana Tech after they claimed the game’s first points last week, but it was the SMU Mustangs who ended up claiming the real prize. Louisiana Tech fell just short of SMU by a score of 39-37. The losing side was boosted by QB Austin Kendall, who passed for four TDs and 351 yards on 40 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown. Kendall’s 62-yard touchdown toss to WR Tre Harris in the first quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the afternoon.

The losses bumped both teams down to an identical 1-2. A pair of defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: The Mean Green are stumbling into the game with the 230th most passing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up eight on the season. The Bulldogs have experienced some passing struggles of their own as they are 249th worst in the nation in passing yards allowed per game, with 420 on average. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
