As if things weren’t already going well for Georgia, coach Kirby Smart got a big commitment on Thursday morning — literally. Bear Alexander, a four-star defensive lineman in the Class of 2022, announced his commitment to the Bulldogs in a Twitter post. Alexander, a 6-foot-3, 325-pounder from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, chose Georgia over Texas A&M

“This journey has been one hell of a ride,” wrote Alexander, who originally hails from Brewer High School in Fort Worth, Texas. “I’ve had the opportunity of a lifetime to be recruited by some of the most prestigious universities in the world. My heart led me to Georgia, but I wanted to see more and needed to be sure that I was making the right decision … My desire to be close to home led me to Texas A&M, and the love and support from the 12th Man was electric, packed out stadium with 105k plus in the win vs. Bama at home. One thing my mom and pops have always told me is to follow my heart. So after much consideration and hours of conversation, I will be closing my recruiting down and following my heart. Bulldawg Nation, I’m coming home.”

Alexander is the No. 39 overall player in the 2022 class and No. 6 among defensive linemen. Gabe Brooks, midland region recruiting analyst for 247Sports, provided this scouting report on the newest member of Georgia’s recruiting class.

Big-bodied interior defensive lineman with college-ready size,” Brooks wrote. “Requisite height accompanies significant mass. Missed sophomore year (transfer rules) but returned as a junior to aid a Texas 5A D-I state championship defense. Shows encouraging get-off quickness relative to size, as well as pursuit ability. Physical at the point of attack with expected play strength. Punchy and shows stack-and-shed ability vs. the run. Plays inside in a four-man front and is likely capable of fitting even or odd looks. Can expand move set and technical nuance. Balance and body control can also get better when engaged and in pursuit. Legitimate high-major interior defensive lineman who could become impact starter in college with potential to reach the pro level.

Alexander’s commitment vaults Georgia back to the top of the 247Sports team recruiting rankings for the 2022 cycle. He is the 21st player in the upcoming class to commit to Smart and the Bulldogs.
