Saquon Barkley, Kadarius Toney, Kenny Golladay on the mend, Giants optimistic they can practice Friday

The New York Giants haven’t had their full complement of skill position players available in quite a while. If head coach Joe Judge is to be believed, it might not be that much longer until they have all of their top options back on the field.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Judge said that while Saquon Barkley, Kadarius Toney, and Kenny Golladay did not practice on Thursday, they are each making “good progress” and he is “pretty optimistic” that they will be able to get on the field for Friday’s practice, according to The Athletic’s Dan Duggan.

Barkley has been out since suffering a scary-looking ankle injury early in the team’s Week 5 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He had to be carted off the field but avoided a season-ending ailment. He’s been replaced in the lineup largely by backup Devontae Booker. Golladay suffered an injury early in that game as well, and dealt with injuries throughout his last year in Detroit.

Toney stepped into the lineup with Golladay and Sterling Shepard injured and had a monster day (10 catches for 189 yards) in that loss to Dallas, only to sustain an ankle injury of his own during the game. He managed to suit up for the Week 6 contest against the Rams and had three catches on the first drive, but reinjured the ankle and has been out ever since.

The Giants have an extra day to get ready for their “Monday Night Football” game against the Kansas City Chiefs, which gives each of the three injured players a bit more time to heal. New York already got Shepard and Darius Slayton back in the lineup, and is inching closer to full health as it heads into a stretch where it plays four of its next six games on the road.
