What to Know
The Richmond Spiders will take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs at 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Baha Mar Convention Center. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
It looks like Richmond got the smaller half of the wishbone at Thanksgiving dinner. They were within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap on Thursday as they fell 86-80 to the Maryland Terrapins. Despite the loss, the Spiders got a solid performance out of forward Grant Golden, who had 18 points and five assists in addition to six boards.
As for MSU, it looks like they got the smaller half of the wishbone at Thanksgiving dinner. On Thursday, they lost to the Louisville Cardinals by a decisive 72-58 margin. One thing holding the Bulldogs back was the mediocre play of forward Garrison Brooks, who did not have his best game: he played for 33 minutes but put up just eight points on 4-for-12 shooting.
Richmond is now 3-3 while MSU sits at 4-1. A couple defensive stats to keep an eye on: Richmond has allowed their opponents to shoot 46.10% from the floor on average, which is the 49th highest shooting percentage allowed in college basketball. MSU’s defense has more to brag about, as they they rank 16th in college basketball when it comes to points allowed per game, with only 56 on average.
