What to Know
The North Florida Ospreys are 0-5 against the #20 Florida Gators since March of 2016, but they’ll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. North Florida will head out on the road to face off against the Gators at 7 p.m. ET at Stephen C. O’Connell Center. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so their meeting could be a low-scoring affair.
North Florida was pulverized by the Florida Atlantic Owls 76-41 on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Florida entered their game against the Texas Southern Tigers on Monday without any home losses — but there’s a first time for everything. Florida took a hard 69-54 fall against Texas Southern. This was hardly the result the Gators or its fans were betting on, as they were favored by 23.5 points over the Tigers heading into this matchup. Guard Brandon McKissic put forth a good effort for the losing side as he had 15 points. McKissic had some trouble finding his footing against the Oklahoma Sooners last week, so this was a step in the right direction. McKissic’s points were the most he has had all season.
The losses put the Ospreys at 2-8 and Florida at 6-2. A pair of numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: North Florida has allowed their opponents an average of 8.8 steals per game, the 15th most in college basketball. To make matters even worse for North Florida, Florida enters the contest with 9.6 steals per game on average, good for 29th best in college basketball. In other words, North Florida will need to work extra hard to take care of the ball.
