Mississippi State coach Mike Leach has been unafraid to unleash impassioned food takes and he sounded off another long-standing culinary debate Wednesday. The Air Raid offense innovator said pineapple “doesn’t belong” on pizza in Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference

The 60-year-old Leach called pineapple on pizza a “terrible idea,” explaining he enjoys pineapple on its own but never on a slice.

This isn’t the first time Leach shared his pineapple on pizza opinion. In his first year with the Bulldogs, he implored individuals who eat pineapple on pizza to “make up your mind” and described them as “indecisive.”

“I’m against it,” Leach said. “I’m staunchly opposed. It’s my mom’s favorite type of pizza — ham and pineapple — and I love pineapple, too. I eat a lot of pineapple. I eat more pineapple than most people do. And actually — and not because I plan to eat it, really — I’ve actually grown pineapple, because it turns out you just twist the top off, stick it in the ground and it’ll grow.”

Earlier this season, Leach gave a detailed Halloween candy breakdown after his team’s 45-6 win over Vanderbilt. His disdain toward pineapple on pizza extended to candy corn.

“I mean, I completely hate candy corn,” Leach said. “Gummy bears for sure … The Haribo ones. It’s got to be the Haribo ones. And then the other thing I like is when they used to have the Sprees in a box. Outstanding. You have to go to the dollar store to find it, but I do.

“And then the latest … There’s still candy innovation, although a while back I found that Europe had better candy than we did overall. It’s because they have gummy everything. But they have those Nerds Clusters, which is new … Which is good! The Nerds Clusters is good. And then if you go chocolate, probably Almond Joy.”http://www.cbssports.com/”

Leach’s Bulldogs will play No. 17 Auburn this Saturday at noon on ESPN. Perhaps he’ll share his thoughts on Alabama-style barbecue after the game.
